Advances in post-consumer PVC-U recycling have lead to Eurocell winning the National Recycling Awards 2012 ‘Materials Recycler of the Year (Large)’ category.
Eurocell was the only PVC-U systems company to gain recognition at this year’s event, which was held at The Lancaster hotel in London on 3rd July.
Former England Rugby star and Strictly Come Dancing competitor Austin Healy presented the award to Eurocell at the ceremony, which was attended by leading organisations from across the UK.
The judges selected Eurocell as overall winner of the category, in part, because of its £3m investment in enlarging its post-consumer PVC-U recycling facility, which is now the largest of its kind in the UK with a capacity to process up to 12,000 end-of-life window frames per week.
The Materials Recycler of the Year Award recognised this investment by parent company Tessenderlo as well as Eurocell’s commitment to sustainable manufacturing leadership.
Eurocell was also commended for its improved, market-leading Eurologik profile system that is made using post-consumer recycled PVC-U, as well as customer-specific closed-loop recycling programmes.
Closed-loop recycling at Eurocell involves recycling end-of-life PVC-U window frames to make new, energy efficient window products that are delivered back to the same construction sites from which they were removed.
“Winning Materials Recycler of the Year sends a clear message to the building and specification sector that Eurocell is the company to partner with for a sustainable future,” said Chris Coxon, Marketing Manager at Eurocell. “With the plant investment and our new product development programmes, we are making good progress in delivering our commitment to sustainable manufacturing leadership.”
All Eurocell post-consumer recycling and subsequent manufacture of new products is carried out in the same geographic area, which means the company can proudly state that its products are ‘Made and recycled in Derbyshire’. Emma Maier from the National Recycling Awards and editor of MRW said: “Eurocell thoroughly deserves to win Materials Recycler of the Year for the work it has done in advancing post-consumer PVC-U recycling within the building sector. There are few companies in the industry prepared to invest at this level in creating a sustainable future for us all.”
The National Recycling Awards is supported by MRW, the sector’s leading journal, and supports the work of the construction and retail sector as well as local authorities and councils.
