Buchan Concrete Solutions have vast experience in the hotel sector and have completed a number of hotels recently including; Hilton and Hampton by Hilton Hotels at the new FA training ground at Burton on Trent, Staffs - Hotel La Tour, Birmingham - Holiday Inn, Commercial Road, London and the new 12 storey Premier Inn on Dale Street, Manchester.
The Premier Inn Hotel was constructed within a constrained city centre site which is at the junction of three busy routes in the Piccadilly area of the city, making delivery access difficult and leaving little room for on-site storage. Buchan’s off-site method of construction was therefore the ideal solution. Precast concrete components manufactured off-site would ensure that the restricted site conditions would not be an issue and the Just-in-time delivery system would eliminate any problems regarding on-site storage.
The Hotel was constructed using Buchan’s specialised sandwich panels for the external walls and high quality precast concrete for all internal walls and floors. The brick faced sandwich panels comprise 60mm of insulation and were delivered with ‘Aston Smooth’ brick and windows already installed at works. This saved money and time by increasing the speed of construction to up to one floor per week and reduced the need for scaffolding and various follow on trades. The innovation was thought to save more than three months on brickwork installation. It also helped improve health and safety on the constricted site for workers and the community, by removing the need for scaffolding, bricklayers and glaziers working at height as all panels were installed by Buchan’s own erection team using a single tower crane.
