The October 2013 release of Approved Document A of the Building Regulations now includes reference to the Eurocodes.
The old British Standards are no longer being maintained and will become increasingly out of date, so engineers need to be using the new Eurocodes.
The design process will not change as a result of changing to the Eurocodes, just some of the formulae and structural models change.
The Concrete Centre has produced a wide range of guidance to help engineers make the transition to the use of Eurocode 2, which is the code for the design of concrete.
In the long term, it is anticipated that Eurocode 2 will result in more economic structures so conceptual design done to, say, BS8100 may confidently be taken through to detail design using EC2.
To enable designers to gain confidence of using Eurocodes for the design of concrete structures, there is a wealth of information and guidance available from The Concrete Centre.
