GI Energy, the UK market leader in the design and installation of Ground Source Energy Systems for heating and cooling in the UK, is now extending its portfolio to offer customers complete energy solutions.
The company which pioneered the use of Ground Source Energy Systems in the UK will utilise a range of extra technologies to offer customers bespoke energy solutions in order to maximise cost and carbon savings.
These will include Combined Heat and Power, air source heat pumps, demand reduction, power conditioning, solar photovoltaic and thermal and biomass in addition to Ground Source Energy Systems.
Depending upon a customer’s requirements, and the size and location of their site, GI Energy will find a heating and cooling solution that incorporates one or more of the above technologies.

“At the new Oxford Earth Sciences building at Oxford University, for example, 3.6 kilowatts of heating and 4.7 kilowatts of cooling are produced for every kilowatt of power required to run the Ground Source Energy System.

The beauty of Ground Source Energy Systems is that they exploit the ability of the earth to store heat naturally underground, thus effectively using solar energy from the sun. Heat is extracted from the ground during cooler weather, and returned during hotter weather by using the system in reverse.
An example of combining technologies to create extra efficiencies is the use of Ground Source Energy Systems alongside Combined Heat and Power plants, which overcomes the main disadvantage of CHP which is that it always produces heat as well as electricity. In warmer weather when that heat is not required, a Ground Source Energy System can return it to the ground for later re-use.
