ISG has successfully completed a pioneering project for North Warwickshire & Hinckley College, delivering one of the UK’s first Studio College’s.
The new facility in Hinckley was officially opened by Lord Hill, under-secretary of state for schools, and provides academic qualifications and continuous work placements to prepare young people for the world of work.
This latest project builds upon ISG’s strong relationship with North Warwickshire & Hinckley College, which last year saw the contractor successfully deliver an £8.3 million creative arts and media campus development in Hinckley town centre.
The Midland Studio College opened its doors to students in September following a fast-track, six-month project by ISG to re-commission and comprehensively upgrade an underused building in the town to accommodate the school, which specialises in Engineering, Health, Social Care and Business.
Marion Plant OBE, Principal of North Warwickshire & Hinckley College, which sponsors the new school, said: “The Midland Studio College offers students a fantastic opportunity to combine high levels of academic performance with real life experience of the world of work. We are grateful for the input from all our partners, including the many employers who have helped us design an exciting and industry standard curriculum for our students.”
Speaking at the official launch of the The Midland Studio College, Lord Hill added: “I am so pleased to have the chance to be here for the official opening of The Midland Studio College at Hinckley. It has got off to an excellent start and there is a real buzz in the classrooms. Children have the chance to learn practical skills with work experience alongside more traditional academic subjects. It is a great mix and I can see why it is popular with the students.”
ISG’s Jonathan Kell, Managing Director - Midlands, commented: "The Studio College concept has received an extremely positive response from both educationalists and the business community as a focus for developing students’ employability skills.
“This new facility is at the vanguard of a growing number of College-led academies with a shared vision to work in partnership to deliver outstanding outcomes for students, staff, partners and the local community.”
