Leading cable management manufacturer Marshall-Tufflex has supplied a matt black trunking solution for high specification university laboratories housing a study into the behaviour of cold atoms.
The aluminium Profile 3003 feeds power and data at dado height around the labs within Birmingham University’s School of Physics and Astronomy. The trunking has also been installed on overhead canopies sited above work benches.
Professor Kai Bongs is leading the studying into ‘quantum phenomena by exploiting cold atom gases as a unique window to the quantum world’. He had an exacting specification for the lab fit-out, specifically requested matt black trunking as a safety measure because his work utilises high powered lasers. Should a laser beam escape, black trunking will absorb the light.
University electrical engineer George McGahey said the Marshall-Tufflex system was selected both on colour and shape/dimensions, all of which fitted with the specification required.
The system was installed by Enterprise Electrical Services Ltd, Birmingham. Electrical wholesaler was Newey & Eyre
