Redland’s Solar PV is now available to over 3.6 million social housing properties after it was awarded a place on an ambitious new framework designed to deliver the benefits of solar power to the social housing sector. This framework is a triumph of collaboration and represents a significant step forward in the drive to improve the energy efficiency of the UK’s housing stock. It is also, of course, a major opportunity for Redland’s Solar PV range.
One of the most significant challenges for the UK in achieving its legally binding carbon reduction commitment is the improvement required to the existing housing stock. The Government is establishing schemes to incentivise private households to retrofit energy saving measures and this new Photovoltaics and Solar Agreement is part of the Retrofit Solution for the social housing sector.
The framework has been established by Procurement for Housing, a national purchasing consortium for housing organisations in England, Scotland and Wales. It currently has more than 750 members including housing associations, ALMOs and Local Authorities that collectively manage more than 3.6 million properties. For this project PfH worked together with Fusion 21, a social enterprise promoting collaboration to save money and jobs within the social housing sector.
Richard Hartley, Head of Marketing and Business Development at Redland recognises the importance of this initiative: “Retrofitting social housing is a critical part of the drive to reduce carbon emissions from homes. We are delighted to be involved in this ground-breaking project, particularly as the products accepted onto the framework have all had to pass a rigorous selection procedure based on the quality and value for money of the technology.”
Alan Heron, Senior Procurement Manager, PfH said: "This has been in many respects a ground-breaking project within the social housing sector. Not only has this project been delivered in conjunction with Fusion21, but is also the result of extensive research, partnering, and development across multiple sectors and disciplines. Social Housing experts, asset managers, renewable technology engineers, university professors, architects, and procurement professionals have all worked together on this project in a rare example of TRUE collaboration!"
