The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) has launched a recruitment campaign to appoint new members to the Architects Registration Board (ARB).
MHCLG is seeking to appoint four Architect Members and one Lay Member to fill a series of vacancies that have arisen or will soon arise due to existing Board members completing their tenures: two Architect Members in 2026 and two Architect Members and a Lay Member in 2027.
The Board plays a crucial role in ensuring that ARB delivers its statutory functions in the public interest. It also sets ARB's strategic direction and oversees its performance. Together, Board members bring a wide range of experience and perspectives to support effective governance, robust decision-making, and public accountability.

This is an important time for the Board as ARB continues to deliver the ambitions set out in its Corporate Strategy. The appointments offer an opportunity to interested individuals to help shape the future of the profession and support its positive contribution to the built environment.
As an inclusive organisation, ARB is committed to equality of opportunity and to reflecting the diversity of both the profession and the public. ARB encourages applications from individuals from currently underrepresented backgrounds to help ensure that a broad range of perspectives informs its decision-making.
Alan Kershaw, ARB Board Chair: “ARB's Board plays a central role in ensuring that we deliver our statutory responsibilities effectively and in the public interest. As we continue to implement our Corporate Strategy and respond to the opportunities and challenges facing the profession, the contribution of Board members has never been more important.
“Serving on the Board is a rewarding opportunity to help shape the future of architectural regulation and support a profession that makes a profound contribution to our built environment. I encourage anyone who shares our commitment to high standards, good governance and public confidence to consider applying.”
Candidates can apply for these roles using the Public Appointments website.
