Recofloor, the UK’s leading vinyl flooring recycling take-back scheme funded by leading UK flooring manufacturers Altro and Polyflor, continues to set the standard for circular economy practices across the sector. Since its launch, the scheme has successfully diverted more than 8,200 tonnes of vinyl flooring waste from landfill, demonstrating the power of industry collaboration in reducing environmental impact.

Building on this success, Recofloor is now driving forward an even more impactful circular approach by supporting its members to donate surplus flooring for reuse – creating economic, environmental and social value across the supply chain.
This initiative marks an important step change for the flooring industry. By prioritising reuse before recycling, Recofloor is helping move materials further up the waste hierarchy, ensuring that usable flooring is given a second life instead of entering traditional waste streams prematurely. Alongside its established recycling programme, this new pathway extends the lifecycle of flooring materials while embedding circular economy principles into everyday practice.
The programme is already delivering tangible benefits for members. By facilitating reuse, contractors and distributors can reduce waste disposal volumes, lower associated costs, and strengthen their sustainability performance – all while contributing to meaningful community outcomes.
Contractors can easily participate in the scheme by donating surplus flooring through their existing flooring distributor or by contacting Recofloor directly, while flooring distributors can also donate their surplus and old flooring stock. This streamlined process ensures that materials are efficiently redirected to where they can provide the greatest value.
The impact of this initiative is already being realised in the sector. In the past year alone, Recofloor supported Headlam Group in successfully diverting over 21 tonnes of flooring for reuse, showcasing the significant opportunities available when businesses embrace circular practices.
Carla Eslava, Recofloor Manager, says: "This initiative is an important milestone for the flooring industry. By prioritising reuse alongside recycling, we are helping our members unlock greater value from materials while significantly reducing waste. It demonstrates how collaboration across the supply chain can deliver real environmental, social and economic benefits, and brings us closer to a truly circular future for flooring."
Recofloor is encouraging all members to take part and help scale this initiative. To learn more about how to donate surplus flooring or to explore the reuse programme, please contact the Recofloor team or visit the reuse section on the Recofloor website.
