The Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough visited Botanic Place to hear how Skanska is supporting economic growth, creating jobs and investing in the region's future.

During the visit in Cambridge, he heard how Skanska is delivering more than £900 million of investment across the county, supporting economic growth, creating jobs and strengthening local supply chains.

He also saw how progress is being made on one of Cambridge's most significant developments, Botanic Place, and heard how Skanska is helping drive economic growth across the region.

The visit showcased not only the rapid progress being made at Botanic Place for our customer Railpen, Investment Manager of the £35bn railway pension scheme, but also Skanska's growing contribution to one of the UK's most dynamic regions. Whether delivering the landmark A428 upgrade, supporting life-saving care at Royal Papworth Hospital through critical facilities management services, or investing in defence infrastructure, Skanska is supporting hundreds of jobs, creating opportunities for local businesses and apprentices, strengthening regional supply chains and helping deliver the infrastructure and facilities needed to support continued growth.

Lee Marks, Executive Vice President of Building, highlighted the scale of Skanska's operations across the county. The Mayor also heard about the vision behind Botanic Place. Located in the heart of Cambridge, the development is set to become a prominent new destination in the city centre, combining high-quality sustainable construction with a commitment to delivering meaningful social value. The project will support local supply chain partners, charities, community initiatives and businesses, ensuring benefits extend well beyond the site itself.

Lee said: "Cambridgeshire is one of the most important growth regions in the UK and we are proud to be playing a key role in its development. Through projects worth more than £900 million across infrastructure, healthcare, commercial development and defence, Skanska is helping deliver the facilities, connectivity and investment needed to support the region's long-term success.

"It was a pleasure to welcome the Mayor to Botanic Place and demonstrate both the progress being made on this landmark development and the wider contribution Skanska is making across the county."

Graham Mercer, Project Director, added: "Botanic Place sits in the heart of Cambridge city centre and is taking shape rapidly. Over the course of the development, the project will employ hundreds of people, support local supply chain partners and create meaningful social value through a range of local initiatives and charitable partnerships.

“As one of Europe's leading centres for science, technology and innovation, Cambridge continues to attract major investment, creating demand for world-class infrastructure and sustainable development and Botanic Place will be a landmark development when complete. Being able to share that story with the Mayor was a valuable opportunity."
