Taylor Maxwell, one of the UK’s leading providers of brick, façade and timber solutions and part of the BRCK Group, has supplied more than £500,000 of bespoke wet cast stone for the restoration of Crystal Palace Park’s historic Italian Terraces.
The Grade II-listed terraces were restored as part of a recently completed major phase of the park’s multi-million-pound regeneration, co-delivered by Bromley Council and Crystal Palace Park Trust with support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
Led by HTA Design as lead consultant and landscape architect, the project also restored the park’s Grade I-listed Victorian dinosaur sculptures, Geological Court and delivered a new visitor centre, dinosaur-themed playground, improved paths, lighting and new step-free routes.
The Italian Terraces occupy the site on which the Crystal Palace stood after it was relocated from Hyde Park following the Great Exhibition of 1851.
Taylor Maxwell was approached by main contractor Maylim in May 2025 to identify a material capable of accurately replicating the terraces’ existing profiles. Working with manufacturing partner Vobster Architectural, it selected Wet Cast Bathstone in a Light Etch finish. The bespoke package included copings, pier caps, balustrades, bottles and closed panels. Early site meetings allowed samples to be assessed against the existing masonry.

The wider project team included Tate + Co as architect for the new-build elements and Donald Insall Associates as specialist heritage architect.
