Architectural
aluminium glazing systems by leading UK manufacturer Kawneer has helped to
redefine what can be expected from 21st
Century student accommodation in one of the UK's largest cities.
Kawneer's AA100
zone-drained and capped curtain walling and AA540 top-hung casement inserts in
an unusual tiger bronze finish feature on the new Byrom
Point mixed-use development on Liverpool's Great Crosshall Street, close to
the University of Liverpool, John Moores University and the School of Sport and
Exercise Science.
Designed
by Falconer Chester Hall architects and built by main contractor Watkin Jones,
the redevelopment of a derelict site comprises 398 bed spaces of student
accommodation set out within 69 clusters and 53 studios over 14 floors with
361m2 of retail space on the ground floor.
The Kawneer glazing
systems for the window features have been used alongside coloured spandrel
panels of varying colours and columns of pale stone cladding interspersed with
coloured and perforated metal cladding. This clever use of shades of colour
breaks up the bulk of the building.
Byrom Point combines
shared apartments of en-suite bedrooms and communal kitchen and living space or
en-suite studios with their own kitchen area with social spaces including games
lounge, TV area, study space and on-site 24/7 gym.
