A revolutionary heating system that was designed and built in the North West has won another prestigious industry award to add to its collection.
The Ecopod beat off stiff competition to take home ‘Most Innovative Use of Renewable Technology’ at the Housing Innovation Awards in London.
Keith Rimmer, Managing Director of the Warrington-based Belfry Group, designed the system to overcome fuel poverty within high-rise tower blocks. The system has already been fitted in a number of tower blocks across the North West, which has led to savings of up to 43 per cent in fuel costs and CO2 emissions.
The company is having to make more room in its trophy cabinet, after winning a number of recent for the innovative Ecopod, including Project of the Year at the prestigious Heating and Ventilation Awards, Environmental Initiative of the Year and highly commended in the category for Industrial/Commercial Heating Product of the Year.
This latest award comes hot on the heels of news that Belfry has just signed a deal with leading UK energy services company, Carillion, to exclusively market and install its award-winning EcoPod heating system worldwide.
Mr Rimmer said: “I am delighted we’ve brought home another award for the Ecopod. We are a newcomer to these awards so for us to win is an amazing achievement.
“The EcoPod has generated a huge amount of interest since we carried out the first installation, which not only underlines the strengths of the product but will help us in our future marketing efforts.
“Joining forces with Carillion means that we can now bring EcoPod to a wider customer base and we will have the delivery capability to expand the use of EcoPod across the public and private sectors and in domestic and commercial applications.”
The EcoPod Heating System combines highly efficient cascade boilers with solar power and a bespoke Building Management System (BMS). It reduces carbon emissions and energy costs by using a combination of renewable technologies, in a self-contained system retro-fitted to existing and new buildings. Clients include local authorities, housing associations, trusts and commercial and industrial property owners and schools.
Key benefits of EcoPod include:
EcoPod is delivered to site fully commissioned and working ready to be lifted by crane into position. The pre-prepared reinforced steel base the EcoPod is lowered onto ensures good weight distribution and provides a solid foundation. If installation on the roof is not suitable, the system can also be installed within a building.
The Housing Innovation Awards recognise and reward commitment to innovation in the housing sector.
