The ways in which electronically tintable glass can improve building energy performance, enable more sustainable building design and construction, and create a more comfortable environment for occupiers are outlined in a new RIBA approved CPD seminar by glass and glazing specialist GLASSOLUTIONS.
“An introduction to Electrochromic Glazing: Dynamic Control of Solar Heat Gain and Glare” by the Saint-Gobain Group company, which recently launched SageGlass in the UK, explains the sustainability and performance benefits of electrochromic or “active” glass for windows, skylights and curtain walls, that tints or clears to modulate solar heat gain and glare.
The seminar demonstrates how electrochromic technology works, operates and performs; how it can benefit building designers, clients and occupiers; and how it can be integrated into facades.
Case studies from installations of SageGlass in the UK, Europe and USA illustrate how electrochromic glass is a viable alternative to using conventional sun controls such as motorised window shades, blinds and louvres that tend to block sunlight and views.
Jeff Upton, UK Sales and Marketing Manager for SageGlass, says: “We are excited to offer this RIBA approved seminar which has been designed to help architects and designers better understand how electrochromic glazing can help optimise the comfort and productivity of building occupiers.
"By adjusting electronically the level of tint, electrochromic glazing allows the control of daylight and solar heat, therefore creating the most comfortable internal environment and maximising energy efficiency.”
This is the second RIBA approved CPD seminar developed by GLASSOLUTIONS, which also offers an interior glass specification seminar.
GLASSOLUTIONS is the UK’s largest processor, distributor, installer and repairer of glass and glass systems. It has a turnover in excess of £110 million and employs around 1,100 people.
