MCS certification for new Daikin Altherma Low Temperature Split range

The new generation of Daikin Altherma Low Temperature (LT) Split air-to-water heat pumps (ERLQ-C) has gained full accreditation from the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS), allowing end-users to benefit immediately from best-in-class energy efficiencies.

Accreditation is mandatory for an installation to qualify for Government funding such as the Renewable Heat Premium Payment (RHPP) scheme and the proposed Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI). To meet this standard, products must meet rigorous testing criteria that demonstrate their quality and performance. Accreditation involves product testing as well as the assessment of manufacturing processes, materials, procedures and staff training.

Now the new Daikin Altherma ERLQ-C range, launched in September 2012, has gained MCS accreditation, which means it can be specified and installed with confidence by MCS accredited installers.

Nancy Jonsson, Daikin UK Product Manager, Heating and Renewables, said: “This is great news and confirms Daikin’s on-going commitment to product development and the MCS accreditation scheme.

“Customers can order the new Daikin Altherma LT split and take advantage of a high quality product which boasts high COPs, delivering improved running cost savings. Householders can also apply for the RHPP grant of £850 and will be eligible to apply for the forthcoming domestic RHI.”

MCS is designed to raise installation standards and help give end users reassurance that their system meets the highest criteria. It covers every aspect, from design and selection through to installation, ensuring the most appropriate heat pump is installed. The requirement to keep home owners fully informed throughout means they will understand the type and characteristics of the system they will own for the next 15 or so years.

Models in the new Daikin Altherma LT Split range have capacities from 4 to 16kW and deliver up to a 15% improvement in COP over the previous range. For example, the new 4kW model delivers a Coefficient of Performance of over 5 (at an outside air temperature of 7°C and delivering a water flow temperature of 35°C, tested to EN14511). The capacity of the new range at low outdoor temperatures has also been improved which greatly reduces the need for back-up heater operation in cold conditions.

As well as increased efficiency, the new range features a stylish and compact indoor unit, with front access and reduced clearances, making it easier to install, commission and maintain. And with a new easy-to-use control with energy usage display, the system is designed to ensure optimum energy efficiency, maximising running cost savings and comfort for end-users.

Designed for even the most severe European winters, the outdoor unit has a host of frost protection features to avoid freezing and ice build-up. The pumps can produce water temperatures of up to 55°C with guaranteed capacities all the way down to at least -15°C, resulting in reduced use of auxiliary heaters. Operation is guaranteed even when the outside temperature is down to -25°C.

Daikin Altherma’s seasonally efficient LT Split air-to-water heat pumps have been optimised for new build homes and low energy houses, as well as being ideal for replacing existing heating systems in older properties. Because the wall-hung indoor hydrobox unit can be combined with a separate unvented hot water cylinder (from 150 to 300 litres), it can be sited flexibly to suit the building layout and end user requirements.
