Leading chilled water pipework solution Durapipe SuperFLO, has been specified as part of a major refurbishment to the ice rink at Chelmsford Leisure Centre.
The ice rink was in need of a complete refurbishment and as part of this work the system that freezes the water on the rink was also replaced. The innovative design of the new system was something that was devised by leading building services engineers JSH Ipswich and the in house team at the leisure centre.
As part of the project, a high quality pipework system was required to transport chilled water to the new system; JSH Ipswich specified Durapipe SuperFLO as a high profile and cost effective solution that best matched the requirements outlined at the design stages.
Durapipe SuperFLO was specified in sizes 25mm – 225mm and is being used to transport chilled water from the onsite chiller to the rink, where the water is then frozen and kept at a constant temperature through a new specialist system. It is essential that the pipework remains ductile at such low temperatures and as a result SuperFLO, which specialises in transporting low temperature liquids, was the ideal choice for JSH.
Tasked with installing the new and improved system was mechanical experts Munro Building Services and their Mechanical Engineer Tristan Clarkson said: “We were extremely impressed with the lightweight nature of the SuperFLO system as it made on-site handling hassle free. The fast solvent-welded jointing system also saved us valuable man hours as a result of the speedy jointing process.”
JSH project manager, Richard Parker also comments: “SuperFLO is an extremely tough and durable pipework system that was ideal for this ice rink development. It was clear in the planning stages that we needed high performing products that would perform well over time in low temperatures. SuperFLO from Durapipe was a fantastic alternative to other metal systems for us; it’s competitive pricing was a further deciding factor in our decision.”
Durapipe SuperFLO is specially designed to cater for chilled or boosted cold water applications within the building services sector and offers increased benefits. Its lightweight properties, coupled with a simple solvent weld jointing technique, significantly reduce costs during the installation process, whilst the limescale and corrosion free capabilities and wide operating temperatures see the pipework remain tough and durable down to -40°C.
