Jablite is lobbying the Government to take urgent action to encourage strong competition in the provision of certification services for insulation.
This action follows the OFT consultation and report on the insulation sector.
Richard Lee, Managing Director, explained: “We discussed this issue with Teresa Pearce MP who represents the constituency where our Belvedere manufacturing site is situated.
“With the support and encouragement of Teresa, we have written to a several MPs about this issue and would encourage all other companies affected by the current certification process to join us in the campaign to get urgent action by writing to their own MPs.”
Jablite is asking the Government to take the following actions: UKAS is immediately tasked with finding and/or establishing and accrediting more testing facilities for insulation products in the UK; the responsibilities of existing well-respected bodies are extended to allow and encourage them to offer accreditation; and a review is set up to examine ways to increase competition by creating more certification authorities and that action is taken as soon as possible to implement the review findings.
The company also believes the Government must view the introduction of CE Markings as an opportunity to set up a neutral labelling system that has credibility across the construction sector. And, uses the opportunity to facilitate the accreditation and testing of innovative products – not to inhibit it.
Jablite is taking this step because it is investing in the development of innovative, high performing insulation products. The current situation slows down and sometimes inhibits the development of new products.
