Paint manufacturer, Johnstone’s Trade, showcased its latest product development at Clerkenwell Design Week through an exciting and interactive on-stand experience which allowed visitors to test the innovative new coating before it reaches the market.

A live testing station at Johnstone’s Trade’s Detail Pavilion stand enabled attendees to put the cleanable, stain-resisting matt paint through its paces. The hard-wearing wall paint incorporates unique technology that helps prevent stains from setting into the film and enables easier removal of unwanted marks.

Attendees were challenged to test how it performed against difficult substances like ketchup, coffee, lipstick and felt tip pens. The coating’s properties were also showcased in action by visual artist Anthony Donnelly from Urban Canvas. Each day at the event, Anthony performed ‘reverse graffiti’ on a canvass that had been prepared with the cleanable wall paint before being covered in a layer of colourful poster paint. By cleaning into the poster paint to reveal the bright matt emulsion below, the durability and stain-resisting qualities of the coating were demonstrated through three pieces of vibrant art.

Helen Tiplady, Specification Marketing Manager at Johnstone’s Trade, explained: “The research and development process is a hugely important part of bringing a new product to market. To be able to involve attendees at Clerkenwell and see how impressed they were by the coating’s performance against really stubborn marks and stains was fantastic.

"We have developed the product to help architects and interior designers preserve their designs for longer - so to get such positive feedback and interest at Clerkenwell was extremely valuable and satisfying.

"Ahead of Clerkenwell Design Week, Johnstone’s Trade enlisted the help of pupils at Heaton Avenue Primary School, Cleckheaton, who helped prepare the canvasses by creatively applying poster paint during a session with Anthony. Completed artwork from the show will be donated to the school as a thank you for their help."
