More than 15,000 new homes were registered to be built in the UK in November according to NHBC’s latest registration statistics.

A total of 15,237 new homes (11,935 private sector; 3,302 affordable sector) were registered in November, an increase of 35% on the 11,300 (8,409 private sector; 2,891 affordable sector) registered 12 months ago.

Overall, there were 40,335 new home registrations in the rolling quarter (September 2016 – November 2016), compared to 38,134 in the same period last year, an increase of 6%. Private sector registrations increased by 3% over this period (30,587 in 2016; 29,586 in 2015), with the affordable sector increasing by 14% (9,748 in 2016; 8,548 in 2015).

Over the rolling quarter many UK regions experienced notable growth, including Yorkshire & Humberside (58%), West Midlands (36%) and North West (20%), when compared to the same time last year.

As the leading warranty and insurance provider for new homes in the UK, NHBC's registration statistics are a lead indicator of UK house-building activity. For 80 years, NHBC has been committed to driving up quality and raising standards in housebuilding and has approximately 80% market share.

Commenting on the latest figures, NHBC Chief Executive Mike Quinton said: "We saw strong numbers across the majority of the country throughout the month as we approach the end of the year.

"As ever, NHBC remains fully committed to support the industry to build new homes to the highest possible standards."

During Sept '16 – Nov '16, the number of NHBC new home registrations was 40,335, compared to 38,134 in the same period last year - 30,587 were registered in the private sector, compared to 29,586 in the same period last year; and 9,748 were registered in the affordable sector, compared to 8,548 in the same period last year.

Registrations refer to the process of a builder registering a new plot/home to be built in the coming months or weeks, to be covered by NHBC’s 10-year Buildmark warranty. Completions refer to when a new home is completed by the builder.

Changes can occur between figures published at different times owing to changes in policies and cancellations.

NHBC’s role is to support the industry in maintaining and improving the build quality of new homes for homebuyers, whilst providing the benefit of its 10-year Buildmark warranty protection, when required.
