The Golf Classic – Dreaming of the Grand Final

Latest News Fri, Aug 2, 2019 9:17 AM

We at The Golf Classic HQ are receiving heart-warming reports from the many golfers playing across the country as The Golf Classic progresses through its 4th Round matches.

Puttenham Golf Club Vice Captain Andy Nash and his team-mate Andy Schofield told us of a very exciting and enjoyable match played at the prestigious East Sussex National. Andy Nash enthused, “Our opponents Carmine Porpora and Stewart Douglas were great hosts. Myself and Andy got off to a great start…going two up after four, then they pulled one back, however we then took the next two holes. …after 12 holes we were five up and there was much banter about an early pint. …they then came back in style taking five of the next six holes with a half on the 15th, forcing us in to playing extra holes. After much drama we eventually managed to hole a 3ft putt to close the game out. A big thank you to our hosts who were a credit to their club!”

The Home of Golf

At the other end of the country David and Gary Fountain of Reproduction Plaster Company Ltd, are very pleased to have won through against Neil and Gordon Melvin in their match which was played at the Castle Course, St Andrews Links, the ‘Home of Golf’ no less, where the game is said to have been played since the 15th Century. David contacted us in order to confirm the date of the final, hoping by doing so that he hadn’t jinxed their chances of getting to it!

Dreaming of the Grand Final

Meanwhile, in Hertfordshire, Graham Long and Stuart Crawford of Long’s Electricals Ltd., managed to advance through to the fifth round by winning their match. Graham mentioned it is the furthest the pair have ever progressed within the tournament throughout the many years they have taken part. They too are now allowing themselves to imagine themselves playing free golf, attending the gala dinner and prize-giving along with free overnight stay afforded all our finalist.

The Belfry in the West Midlands is the prestigious venue for the 2019 Golf Classic Grand Final. Known for its award-winning courses, the Belfry has hosted more Ryder Cup tournaments than any other venue in the world! Recognised by the PGA as a world-class tournament course, the PGA National is a must for players who want to put their golfing skills to the test.
