Gain insight into the principles of fire safety when designing and constructing timber buildings from the creators of Timber Development UK’s latest resource in a free online webinar from 1-2pm, Friday 31 March 2023.

With this comprehensive new fire safety website, Fire Safety. Wood in Construction, now online, Timber Development UK, Swedish Wood, and the Structural Timber Association want to ensure that everyone has a chance to engage with this new tool.

This special one-hour webinar will be a chance for you to engage with the curator of this new resource, Julie Bregulla.

“This new website is the first iteration of an important new tool for all professionals, aimed at helping them to better understand how fire safety principles underpin good designs, and how they can apply it to their work” says Professor Bregulla.

Julie (FREng, Dipl.-Ing, PhD, CEng, FICE, MEWI) has more than 20 years’ experience working in construction, consulting and certification and is active in research and assessment of construction products and systems, including timber.

This free webinar is open to anyone with an interest in timber fire safety – whether you are an architect, engineer, contractor, installer, building owner – or anyone else.

The session will cover how to use the website and the background of this resource, along with a brief overview of the principles of designing and managing construction for fire safety. There will also be an audience Q&A, along with opportunities to provide feedback.

“This tool has been designed to provide guidance, rather than specific solutions, for the use of timber in buildings, as fire safety design can take many different pathways, influenced by such factors as architectural vision, client demands and product choices,” Bregulla explains.

“It is important to us that this resource is accessible and flexible for everyone in the community – able to support all to confidently and competently consider timber in their designs – and that it can grow over time to meet the needs of its users, so we strongly encourage feedback.”

You can find out more about this event and sign up to register – for free – from the Timber Development UK website.
