An educational building needs to be more than just functional. It should be inviting, offer a sense of calm, and be robust enough for everyday use. That was also the challenge for Campus300 at Avans University of Applied Sciences in ’s‑Hertogenbosch—a new campus where learning, living, and meeting come together.
The design by DP6 architectuurstudio emphasizes flexibility and daily usability. Within that concept, materials play a crucial role. They determine not only how a space looks, but—more importantly—how it is experienced. For Hunter Douglas Architectural, the focus was on creating comfort, calmness, and rhythm within a dynamic educational environment.
With the use of Derako® veneered wooden linear cassettes, the interior gains a warm and natural foundation. Wood softens the scale of large spaces and contributes to a pleasant acoustic environment. In educational settings where collaboration and movement are part of the everyday rhythm, these materials provide balance and support concentration.
The wood forms a natural counterpart to the more technical character of Luxalon® expanded metal. The open structure of the expanded metal enhances the sense of space and fits seamlessly with the layered structure of the design. Combined with acoustic solutions, it contributes to sound comfort in larger, open areas.
It is precisely the interplay between these materials that makes Campus300 what it is: warm and tangible where needed, open and transparent where the space calls for it. For Hunter Douglas Architectural, Campus300 illustrates how material choices contribute to buildings that not only function well, but also feel good to use. A campus where people enjoy being, learning, and working, today and in the future.
