With the official opening of the ONE SCHOTT Factory, international technology group SCHOTT has completed a major investment project at its Landshut site. Following a substantial investment in the double-digit millions, the company has consolidated its two existing Landshut plants into a single competence center in Landshut West. The new production and administration building provides modern working conditions for the approximately 550 employees at the site and strengthens the long-term competitiveness of the Electronic Packaging business unit.
The new ONE SCHOTT Factory in Landshut brings development, production, and administration back under one roof after 25 years. Optimized processes, closer integration between functions, and flexible production structures provide the foundation for transferring innovations into industrial production more quickly and supporting customers worldwide more efficiently.
“We are investing not only in a new building, but above all in the future of our site. Bringing our teams together creates optimal conditions for innovation, collaboration, and efficient processes,” says Site Manager Thomas Gassner. “This strengthens our international competitiveness while creating a modern work environment for our employees that promotes cross-functional collaboration and interdisciplinary exchange.”
SCHOTT has been part of Landshut for more than 80 years. Today, with approximately 550 employees, the site is one of the region’s largest employers and serves as the headquarters of the Electronic Packaging business unit. In Landshut, SCHOTT develops and manufactures more than 1,000 different high-tech glass and metal components designed to protect sensitive electronics for applications including the semiconductor industry, medical technology, and aerospace. At the same time, the company is developing solutions for emerging markets such as battery technology and artificial intelligence.
“The opening of SCHOTT’s new building marks an important milestone for our city. The investment underscores SCHOTT’s long-term commitment to Landshut and strengthens our position as an innovative business and technology location. Companies, employees, and the entire region benefit from this decision,” says Dr. Thomas Haslinger, Mayor of the City of Landshut.
In addition to modern production and office spaces, the new building incorporates a forward-looking energy concept. The building has a very low primary energy demand of 54.3 kWh/(m²·a). The building envelope meets the KfW 55 standard. The energy concept includes heat pumps for combined heating and cooling, innovative heat recovery, a 308 kWp photovoltaic system, and electricity backed by guarantees of origin from renewable energy sources. Based on internal assumptions, SCHOTT expects annual CO₂ emissions associated with the new building’s energy demand to be 460 metric tons lower than those associated with the previous building’s energy demand.
With the completion of the ONE SCHOTT Factory project, SCHOTT is laying the foundation for further growth at its Landshut site. The new competence center provides the conditions needed to transfer innovations into industrial production more quickly, advance new technologies, and further develop SCHOTT in Landshut as a development and production center over the long term. At the same time, it offers skilled professionals a modern work environment that promotes collaboration, knowledge sharing, and innovation.
