In reflection of its robust approach to energy management, Schneider Electric has been placed in the top five% in the energy management industry out of more than 2,000 registered organisations in the 2011 Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) Energy Efficiency Scheme league table.
As part of the CRC’s ongoing drive to reduce carbon emissions among the UK’s larger organisations, the league table ranks participants in terms of their performance against a set of early action metrics including the Carbon Trust Standard which was achieved by Schneider Electric in April 2011.
This accolade comes after the company’s dedication to energy management, including a company-wide initiative, Energy Matters, a consolidated internal communications strategy aimed at igniting an energy efficient culture among its 5,000 employees. Supported by a clear strategy and deployment through a dedicated energy management team this has seen the company achieve year on year carbon emissions reduction for the last three years with a specific 10% reduction within 2011 alone.
More currently, Schneider Electric is in the process of rolling out a holistic efficiency improvement plan, designed to ensure energy savings across the business persist and grow. There are also ongoing internal education programmes in place including Energy Professional and Energy Associate, aimed at further embedding the energy efficiency message.
Further green measures undertaken by the company include dedicated metering and monitoring systems across all large sites to enable the team to monitor and analyse energy consumption and take appropriate action. The team has also created both national and local ‘Energy and Environment Steering Groups’ designed to push sustainable boundaries further.
Mark Jones, UK Energy Manager at Schneider Electric comments: “As a business committed to spearheading sustainability, we pride ourselves on adopting a robust and proactive approach to our own energy usage. In addition having a clearly defined investment strategy based upon environmental and financial returns has allowed us to focus our resources to maximum effect.
“Over the past few years we have invested significant resource in driving our energy strategy in all areas of the business in order to dramatically reduce our own carbon emissions– no simple feat for an organisation of our size.
“We are therefore pleased to have achieved such a prime position within the CRC league table by such a prestigious industry body. However, we are not a business to sit on our laurels and look forward to making further strides forward as we continue our carbon reduction journey.”
